"Bogheid" (Glen Cove, New York)

USA / New York / Glen Cove / Glen Cove, New York
residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, Georgian (architecture)

Residence designed c. 1937 by Delano & Aldrich in the French Manor style for Helen Porter Pryibil on the site of her father's Neo-Dutch Colonial estate ("Bogheid") which burned down in 1930. Her father was William Henry Porter, a partner of J.P. Morgan & Co. and president of Chemical National Bank. The second "Bogheid" by D&A has 60 rooms, 12 bedrooms, 17 fireplaces, an indoor tennis court, bowling lanes and a theater. Additionally, it has landscaping by Olmsted.

After her second marriage to Paul Pryibil, she left the house and ten acres to the City of Glen Cove. The city sold the house and six acres to Martin Carey, Jr. who was the director of advertising for Holiday Magazine. He renamed the estate "Cashelmare" which means 'house by the sea' in Gaelic. His father was vice-president and counsel to Standard Oil Corp.

In more recent years, the estate was renovated for a Mansions & Millionaires designer showcase.
