The particularly impressive Sala dos Brasões (the Coats-of-Arms Room) is situated on the site of the old Casa da Meca, built during the reign of Manuel I (1495-1521). The ceiling in carved gilded woodwork is crowned by the royal coat-of-arms, and is surrounded by the armorial bearings of 72 families. Late 17th to early 19th century panels of painted tiles depict courtly and hunting scenes.
