Colonnade 57 Condominiums (New York City, New York)

492-foot, 45-story modernist residential building completed in 1982. Designed by Philip Birnbaum & Associates, the tower is actually situated on 58th Street, with a long, 1-story entrance corridor extending south to the main entrance at 57th Street. The end of the corridor has four rounded, beige concrete columns with glass infill and glass doors between the middle two. A metal canopy extends out to the sidewalk.

The tower is clad in light-brown brick. Its north facade spans seven bays, with double-windows in the end bays and center bay, and triple-windows in the others. The ground floor has double-windows in each bay, except for the 2nd bay from the west and the 3rd bay from the east, which have secondary entrances. A low brick wall surrounding landscaping fronts the ground floor, except for breaks at the two entrance bays. Above the 2nd floor there are beige concrete floor plates running across each floor, and there are brown metal air-conditioning vents below the windows in each bay beginning at the 2nd floor. Beginning at the 3rd floor, the two bays next to the end bays have projecting brick balconies topped by short, brown metal railings; these front glass French doors instead of windows.

The south facade also has seven bays, but the outer bays are set far back. The center bay has French doors fronted by projecting brick balconies, and the flanking bays have triple-windows. On both sides of the projecting south tower section is another bay of projecting balconies, and then a bay of narrow double-windows. The far-set-back outer bays have double-windows, with the end bays set slightly farther back.

The east and west facades have continuations of the exposed beige floor plates and four bays of narrow double-windows. On the roof is a tall, brick-clad water tower housing. The building contains 261 condominium units.
