Kanpur Central कानपुर सेंट्रल کانپور مرکزی is the major intercity rail station and a commuter rail hub in the India in city of Kanpur. It falls is one of the most busiest stations in India. The Kanpur Central Railway Station is on the main Howrah - Delhi route broad gauge in Uttar Pradesh. The Kanpur Central Station has Route Interlock System similar to New Delhi Railway Station and has highest rail crossings (48) at its Diamond Crossing. It also halts 9 pairs of Rajdhani Express trains.
The first passenger railway line in North India opened from Allahabad and Kanpur on March 3, 1859.
With increase in the passenger in flux, the railway authorities were bound to provide the largest station of North Central Railways, a face-lift, as the station records a rush of more than one lakh passengers and more than 300 trains passing through here on a daily basis.Kanpur Central is also the main hub for the Lucknow-Kanpur Suburban Railway(MEMU).
Railway Minister Km. Mamata Bannerjee has included Kanpur Central in 50 World-Class Railway Stations in her budget.
