It was built on Svoboda Square at the initiative of Haskovo residents and is dedicated to those killed in the wars of 1912-1918 by the former Haskovo District.
The monument, created by the sculptor Toma Deliradev, was consecrated on June 2, 1927 (Savior's Day). Tsar Boris III personally arrived for the solemn ceremony on July 4 and unveiled the monument.
