This was originally built as Leal Public School. In 1958, Leal, along with the Rogers, Dazey, Stewart, Laketown, and Pierce School Districts merged into North Central of Barnes School District 65. During the 1958-59 school year, the Leal Division consisted of the grade school as well as grades seven and eight. The next school year had Leal as a grade school, and it remained that way until 1963, when the new North Central of Barnes Public School opened just north of Rogers, for kindergarten through 12th grade.
