Artificial bay was undeveloped at the mouth of the river near the town of Ochamchira WIOC, from which it derives its name - Ochamchira.

Is a harbor with a narrow passage, protected by two breakwaters. Capacity berths - not more than 10 patrol boats, plus freight (northern) pier to allow ships to berth lengthy, is used to download, fill and repair, which was held at the pier railway line with a fuel depot and put the tower crane.

During the Soviet era cargo berth port could take the cruiser project 1164. Other mooring large ships at anchor at the entrance to the bay.

During the 2000s the bay was used for the joint deployment of civilian ships and gunboats of the Navy of the Republic of Abkhazia. In January 2009, handed over to Russia to settle into her home point of its fleet.
