This is the world-famous Lafitte's Blacksmith shop bar, located on the corner of St. Philip and Bourbon Streets in the French Quarter. Great late-night (I mean LATE!) haunt with good piano in the back. For the most part candle-lit. Built sometime before 1772, it is said to be one of the oldest buildings in N.O., where Lafitte and his brothers operated a blacksmith shop as a front for their underhanded dealings(!).

The building, which dates to 1761, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

According to local lore, it was one of the few buildings that survived both Great New Orleans Fires in the 18th century. The locals must have liked it...
