The Patleyna Monastery complex. It is situated on the right bank of the Kamchia River, not far from the old capital city of Preslav. It was founded at the end of the 9th century and was the main religious centre during the time of the First Bulgarian State. Under the leadership of Naum and Kliment - disciples of the Slavic enlighteners, Sts. Cyril and Methodius - the famous Preslav School of scholars was founded here. Workshops were set up within the monastery's area, from which the production of the Preslav ceramics of high artistic quality flowed.
