The northest Lithuania municipality, borders with Latvia, covers area of 1476 km². Divided into 8 elderships. Administrative centre - Biržai, smaller city is Vabalninkas.
Municipality is famous for sinkhole appearance. Biržai surroundings have deep brewer traditions. There are many nature and culture heritage, part of it is preserved by Biržai regional park. Biržai was residence of counts Radvila, Astravas manor tells about they glory. Likėnai curort is known for beneficial source. Širvėna lake is the oldest reservoir in Lithuania, formed in 1575. The longest rivers are Nemunėlis (latvian Memele), Apaščia, Tatula. Majority of soil is used for agriculture needs like crop ultivation and organic farms. About quarter of municipality area is covered by forest, the biggest are Biržai Forest.
