"White Gates"

Residence designed c. 1939 by Bradley Delehanty in the Neo-Greek Revival style on originally 52 acres of land for William Nelson Davey {financier}. Davey served as chairman of the board and vice president of the Johnson & Higgins insurance broker and average adjuster firm. He also served on the advisory board for the Secretary of Treasury and Bureau of War Risk Insurance during WWI. He was also the Commissioner of Insurance for the United States Shipping Board which settled claims of commandeered Dutch vessels. Davey had lived in Westbury and at "Pidgeon Hill" in Huntington prior to this home. "White Gates" went up for sale in 1982.
