National Archaeological Museum (Chiusi)

The Museo Archeologico Nazionale has been located in the same building since 1901
and consists of a predominantly Etruscan collection displayed along chronological
and thematic lines, attempting whenever possible to reconstruct historical contexts.
It features locally-produced finds such as Canopic and bucchero vases, funebral
sculptures in fetid limestone, urns and sarcophagi in travertine and terracotta, as well
as pottery imported from Greece displayed alongside Etruscan copies. The museum
also exhibits ancient Roman and Lombard articles. The building has been recently
refurbished from an educational point of view with detailed displays and various
extensively annotated ‘highlighted’ items. The Museo Archeologico Nazionale is the
starting point for visiting the Etruscan tombs. Next door is a former Lictorian house
transformed into a restoration workshop and attractive temporary exhibition space.
