Ascoli Piceno, a picturesque medieval town in the Marche region, in central Italy, with about 52,000 inhabitants.
Only those who were born and live in Ascoli can describe and transmit the beauty and the typical essence of the town’s travertine monuments and splendid squares. Piazza del Popolo is one the most beautiful squares in Italy and is known as “the sitting room of Ascoli”.
Ascoli, with its many traditions, is an extremely hospitable town, and has recently become a tourist attraction for those who are curious to discover its narrow alleys (called “rue”) and hidden attractions. Ascoli is a magical town, which changes completely during the Carnival masquerades, or when people dress-up in medieval costumes to give life to the Quintana Joust, with dames and knights and drummers parading along the town streets (on the first Sunday in August). Not to be forgotten are the intense and stunning shows that take place during the night of St. Lawrence (10th August), the night of shooting stars. Only 23 km from San Benedetto del Tronto, which is a famous seaside resort, Ascoli lies in a plain surrounded by hills and the Sibillini mountains and offers tourists its history, cuisine and art (the artistic ceramics by Paolo Lazzarotti are famous worldwide) as well as the incredible tenderness that only such a poetical town can provide. Our advice is to visit Ascoli at least once…… we are sure you will be enchanted!
