 office building, skyscraper

The JPMorgan Chase Tower is a 75-story, 1,002 foot-tall office building located at 600 Travis Street in downtown Houston, Texas. Formerly known as the Texas Commerce Tower and designed by noted architect I.M. Pei, it is the tallest building in Texas, and is the 45th tallest in the world.

The building's sky lobby is located on the 60th floor (though closed in October-December 2013 for renovation). The sky lobby acts as a transfer point for persons traveling to the upper (61-75) floors, and until June 2016 as an observation deck for the public during working hours. One would have taken the express elevator, providing a panoramic view of the city of Houston thanks to the use of wide glass spans and thirteen-foot ceilings.

The entrance to the building features a multi-colored sculpture, "Personages And Birds", created by Spanish artist Joan Miró.

Comments

  • This building was used as a location in the film "Local Hero" directed by Bill Forsyth (1983). Burt Lancaster played oil company executive Felix Happer, and Peter Riegart played his go-to guy, Mac, who was assigned the mission of buying out a small village so the site could be used as an oil facility. Most of the story takes place in a remote coastal area of Scotland. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085859/
