Connaught School was designed by Regina architect James Puntin and built in 1912. The school was named in honour of His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught, who was the Governor of Canada from 1911-1916. The French Immersion Program at Connaught started in 1975 and in 1980 the school was designated as a Community School.

For many years, this school was the only dual track community school in Canada. It is Regina's oldest surviving school still being used for its original purpose; however it is due to close in 2011.

After public outcry, it was kept open until the end of the 2014 school year. It was closed because the building had become structurally unsound.
