Small boats were launched toward Bayou Bienvenu which was carelessly left unprotected with the exception of a handfull of sentries. The pivotal Battle of New Orleans occurred west of the Murphy Oil site along the Mississippi River on 8 Jan 1815. See 'Union 1812' 2006 by Langguth

  • It is called Cat Island because when the British landed here they mistook all of the racoons for cats.
  • Not the British, the French about 75 yrs earlier, thought they were cats.
