Built on the grounds of the former SOCONY/Exxon-Mobil Buffalo refinery, the Buckeye Products terminal sits at the terminus of navigable water in the Buffalo River. Though the facility sits on land designed to load and discharge the bulk of its product by sea, today the bulk of its gasoline and ethanol via underground pipeline from the refineries in New Jersey.

Recent testing of the surrounding brownfields left vacant by the former refinery and the terminal's lands have indicated massive environmental contamination in the soil and substrate due to spills and improper waste disposal. To date local, state and federal authorities are discussing remediation plans for the site to prevent further leaching of pollutants into the Buffalo River.
