Formerly a terminal yard for the Erie & Lackawanna Railroad, the Bison Yard was acquired by Conrail and eventually purchased by Norfolk Southern Railroad. After a 1999 trade agreement for cross-border freight operations, Norfolk Southern modernized and expanded the once-smaller yard and sidings to the North East, which is now officially known as the Bison Yard and serves as the terminus of the Southern Tier Line.

The original Bison Yard, now known as either the Old Bison Yard or Bison Yard South, is still utilized for consist sidings and switching operations.
