1914-1918: Pervijze lay close to the Belgian first line formed by the railway bed Nieuwpoort-Diksmuide. In the (restantan of) former rectory, west of St. Catherine in 1895 demolished the church, Belgian army build a observation tower. From here were the observers enemy artillery, troop movements and building new fortifications observe and the observations by signals on its own artillerie.
1940-1944: The Nazis built on the 'kastanjeplein' a repository for his military equipment, the observation tower is increased by a strong point in brick.
