Harling Road

The Royal Flying Corps was to come to Harling Road (Roudham) in 1916. The airfield covered 245 acres of which 30 acres was occupied by buildings such as 3 coupled and 1 single hangars. No.51 Sqdr. was the first to arrive a home defence unit defending the UK against the Zeppelin threat. 94 Sqdrn was formed here in 1917. The airfield remaind operational as (RAF Harling Road) until March 1920.

Then the camp at Roundham was re-activated during the Second World War when the Black American General Service, enginneers and quartermaster troops occupied the site, feeding and supplying the many USAAF airfields in the surrounding area.
