On March 23, 2005, an explosion occurred involving the "raffinate tower" of the unit identified here. 15 employees of JE Merit and Fluor-Daniel were killed. I identified this place from photos in the Houston Chronicle, but I am pretty sure this is the exact spot. The northern half of the rectangular building in the center was destroyed in the explosion; this is evident in the Chronicle photos. Other landmarks are identifiable and unique enough that I am sure this is the spot. www.chron.com/content/chronicle/special/05/blast/index....
(I believe JE Merit and Fluor-Daniel are both contractors of BP.)
