fortification, interesting place
Portuguese built the Bandra Fort at the southern tip of present day Bandra Band Stand in 1640. The name indicates its origin as a place where fresh water was available in the form of a fountain ("Aguada") for Portuguese ships cruising the coasts in the initial period of Portuguese presence. The Fort was substantially demolished by the English after Bombay was passed on to them by the Portuguese as dowry in the marriage of Catherine of Braganza. Some walls still remain, as is the original plaque. The place has been partially developed into a picturesque park, mostly frequented by lovers starved of public places in the bustling metropolis. It has also become venue for some hip music concerts.md/
