Shahdol district has been blessed with lush green forests, natural wealth of Coal, Minerals and with primitive Tribal population. shahdol town actually comprises of two towns,one being shahdol,the other sohagpur.sohagpur is the old town,and was the headquarters of a large estate,granted by maharaja vir singh ju dev of rewa to his second son raja jamuni bhan. The estate of sohagpur comprised 350 villages.
