temple, freemason / masonic temple
The Masons are an international fraternal organization, originally founded by stonemasons and other craftsmen. It is the oldest, largest and best-known fraternal organization in the world. The first Masonic Temple in Regina was at a location along 11th Avenue in 1906. The Masons soon outgrew the building, however, and a new building was built in 1926 on the site where the YMCA stood until it was destroyed during the cyclone of 1912. The new building, located at 1930 Lorne Street, was designed by Portnall and Reilly. It features Doric columns and curved balustrade walls along the stairway.
