Site "Point" (aka Site "A") (1959-1979). This launch site had 4 above-ground reinforced concrete blockhouses. Each blockhouse stored 4 Hercules missiles on single launchers which would be rolled out for launch. These types of launch/storage structures were used only in Alaska. This site was the only dual firing site in Alaska. The radar control site was due east.

I was an MP stationed at A Btry from Oct.77-when we deactivated in 1979. At that time, the two bunkers west were closed. The other two bunkers housed 10 birds each; not 4, and all were nuclear armed. We also had 6 sentry dogs/handlers. I know what was in the bunkers; as a Spec4 Asst Squad Leader I made security checks inside the igloos with an opposite team member (two man rule to go into the Exclusion Area, one Red team member and one Yellow team member). In May 79, I was part of the Security Escort team when we flew the warheads to Elemendorf AFB. Setting the record straight.
