Site TH-60L "D" Battery (1958-1965). One of 4 Thule AB sites, this launch site had 3 magazines. Each magazine had 2 launchers. Known as "rising star" launchers, each launcher was built into its own elevator and was loaded below ground level in the magazine. The elevator would then rise to the surface and the missile would be fired. This type of magazine/launcher configuration was unique to Thule Air Base due to the extreme weather conditions. Nike-Hercules missiles were the only Nike missiles deployed to Greenland. Each magazine held 10 missiles.
