Originally part of the Charles Dana Estate which was purchased by William Harkness c. 1913 and altered by James Gamble Rogers. Original house Neoclassic, three stories and contained 40 plus rooms. Olmsted designed landscaping for Dana in 1875 which was his first commission in the the North Shore area. Property once split West Island down the middle.

After 1928 Junius Spencer Morgan purchased estate and remodeled leaving only the servants wing. Morgan later built nearby "Salutation". The grieving Jackie Kennedy rented here following her husband's assassination.

  • Wing house was called a wedding cake due to the shape of the house. The mature Kentucky Coffee trees, which were not natives thrived at the entrance to this house as well as the west lawn perimeter. Wing house was a beautiful contrast to Salutation.
