David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York
wifi hotspot, public meeting point, atrium, interesting place

3-story atrium that runs through the base of The Harmony condominium building at the north side, from Columbus Avenue through to Broadway. The atrium is open to the public. It was designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien, and originally called the Harmony Atrium, after the name of the building it was constructed as part of.

It is clad in stainless-steel and glass at both facades, with matching entrances. They both have glass double-doors to the south of a set of two very tall windows, all set below a glass wall that is topped by a very boldly projecting metal canopy. At the west end, the residential tower's upper floors continue above the atrium, while the east end extends out by itself past the east facade of the tower.

The Atrium also features two vertical gardens; a floor-to-ceiling fountain; a media wall with performance information, which also serves as a canvas for video presentations; an art installation by Dutch textile artisan Claudy Jongstra; and 16 “occuli” lighting fixtures that bring natural light and state-of-the-art illumination into the Atrium's interior. Here people can get tickets center for Lincoln Center, as well as enjoy free wifi.
