Entrance portal to canal tunnel constructed in 1796-7. Elliptical brick wall with the voussoired arch with big keystone in it. Above the arch a stone band with, above that, a large now illegible tablet stone. Grade II Listed: www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/...

  • the north portal info says this is 2,726 yards long, and yet the information at the south portal says the tunnel is 2492 metres...er which is the correct length of the tunnel?
