military, heliport, United States Marine Corps

While Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) is officially garrisoned in Quantico MCAS, this forward-deployed location at the Anacostia Naval Annex provides the mixed airwing of HMX-1 with rapid response capabilities for their assigned mission of transporting the President and Vice President of the United States, Cabinet members and other VIP's from the White House to Andrews Air Force Base and other locations.

While the President is embarked, the helicopters of HMX-1 change callsigns to "Marine One".

  • Note the double perimeter security fence with a clearly defined no-mans-land in between each fence. This is a dead giveaway that something very special resides inside the perimeter. It can be seen again around the Air Force 1 hanger at Andrews AFB as well as locations within Ft. Meade and other military facilities.
