Main bridge which spans Cooper Street seperating the two halves of the campus. One of three bridges over the roadway. For most of the campus' history Cooper Street was at ground level and students were forced to cross the four-lane roadway to traverse the campus. The automobile related deaths of several students in the 1980's led to calls to develop a safer method for students to access the western half of the campus. Accordingly Cooper Street was sunk far below the surrounding ground level and large retaining walls were built along either side, giving the area its distinct valley. To facilitate access three bridges have been built to span the roadway, allowing students to cross above the traffic.
