CP-VIRGINIA (Washington, D.C.) | railway, interlocking, railway junction, interlocking tower

USA / District of Columbia / Washington / Washington, D.C.
railway, interlocking, railway junction, interlocking tower

Junction between the passenger line to Washington Union Station and the Landover Line freight bypass. Formerly part of Conrail the interlocking was transferred to CSX as part of its main east coast North-South freight route.

The interlocking was well known for its brilliant amber position light signals visible from the L'Enfant Plaza station platform. These were removed in 2007 when the route was re-built to ease congestion between freight and passenger movements.

The former PRR VIRGINIA tower still stands at the point of the junction.
