 railway, interlocking, interlocking tower

The two interlockings at the summit of the PRR, all controlled from the machine in AR tower. There also used to be a BF interlocking that connected to the Muleshoe curve, but this was removed years ago. These interlockings include the loop track for helpers to be cut off on the fly and reverse quickly back to Altoona for another job.

  • Hello All, For accuracy of information, I recently read an article on the PRR's Gallitzin Helper Loop in Charles.S. Roberts Book "Triumph 1, Altoona To Pitcairn" (page 147), where it was stated by the AR tower Operator to a visiting B&O senior employee that PRR didn't cut off Helpers on the fly. Also a Helper Engine after running forward from Altoona to Gallitzin would come to a halt at UN Interlocking, cut off from the train, then go around the helper Loop to re-enter one of the Eastward Mains, still facing forward, to return to Altoona. regards, Alan Ford
