Comprised of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadrons Three, Four and Seven, (VQ-3, VQ-4 & VQ-7), Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) Wing ONE is the sole wing of the US Navy tasked with providing a survivable communications link between National decision-makers and the Nation's strategic forces. Flying the highly specialized E-6B Mercury airborne command post, STRATCOM Wing ONE enables the President and the Secretary of Defense to directly contact crews on the nation's Ballistic Missile Submarines, land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles and long-range bombers in the "Operation Looking Glass" mission.

Equipped with all sixteen E-6B airframes, STRATCOM Wing One’s operational missions are conducted by Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadrons Three and Four (VQ-3 & VQ-4) while Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Seven (VQ-7) serves as a dedicated training unit.
