Sts. Constantine and Helena Monastery (Varna) | 18th century construction, Bulgarian Orthodox Church

Bulgaria / Varna / Varna
monastery, 18th century construction, Bulgarian Orthodox Church

An orthodox monastery dating from the 18th century. A small piece of St. Martyr Valentine’s relics are kept inside.
The legend has it that the wonder-working icon of the Saints Constantine and Helena survived a terrible shipwreck and for this occasion the brother monks erected on this place a temple and monastery. With this appearance the monastery is renovated in 1832 by the two brother monks Agapiy and Teodosiy from Veliko Tarnovo. The temple itself is build here for a great purpose. It's the only temple in the world where under the Holy Throne in the Altar springs wonder-working and healing water. Every pilgrim can take some water from the temple to cure some illnesses. Here is kept a fragment of the holy remains of Saint Valentine, who helps the younger in their way of making a family. It's not a coincidence that for the last several years there are approximately 40 miracles with healed people. Survived trough the centuries, the monastery has kept its position as a guardian of the Orthodox Religion. Squeezed by the surrounding hotels, it carries the spirit of that religion in the midst of the noise and the vanity of the everyday living.
