Winter winds deposit the snow into a long, narrow ridge on the Coalman Glacier, running from Crater Rock up towards the Pearly Gates and the summit. Just above the highest skier in this photo, the Hogsback is split horizontally by a bergschrund (a large crevasse which forms near the top of a glacier). The bergschrund has been increasing in width and overhang over the past few years, and now presents a formidable obstacle.
