Orthodox Church of "Mihai Bravu" Parish

Built between 1948-1968, the Cercelus Church is one of the very few Orthodox churches that is not oriented (with the altar) towards the East (not geographical East, but the place where the Sun rises on a certain date [if you know this date, please input it here])
This is due to the fact that at the time, the neighborhood had already been built along a grid of streets (after 1934 - noticeable today - see satellite image), but lacked a church to serve the area. In 1947, Bucharest City Hall donated a small plot of land in the area, between the Cercelus and Harsova streets, and the church was built upon it.

  • Otherwise named the Cercelus Church (after the street's name -- Cercelus). Numita si Biserica Cercelus, dupa numele strazii. Biserica are frumoase mozaicuri exterioare, acolo unde de regula bisericile bucurestene au picturi (tempera).
