The area marked, and a large area around it, make up a drumlin field. The tear-drop and oval-shaped mounds are created by ice sheets moving across the ground beneath them. They are called drumlins. They indicate the direction the ice was moving 15,000 plus years ago. In this case the ice was moving south by south-east.
