bridge, road bridge, drawbridge
This drawbridge spans Boca Raton's South Inlet, carrying Ocean Boulevard (A1A) across it. This bridge presently opens on demand, not on a schedule. It was originally named the Boca Raton Inlet Bridge, but renamed for Haven Ashe, a bridge-tender of this bridge from 1942 to 1964, when it was replaced by the present concrete structure. The original wooden bridge opened electrically, but had to be closed manually by Ashe.
