Julia Tuttle is famous for persuading Henry Flagler to extend his new railroad to Miami. She did this by sending Flagler (via FEC exec James Ingraham) a fresh orange blossom after an 1895 freeze had destroyed all of the orange groves to the north, proving that the freeze had not hit Miami.
