This is a public park named after former Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru who infact had bid farewell to North East when the Chinese attacked Assam through NEFA (Arunachal Pradesh). However the state Congress Government had to name it after Nehru to appease high command in New Delhi. The park's main attractions are the Musical Fountain that operates in the evening, rides for children etc.
Originally the whole area of the present park belonged to Church but the government took over the land as Christians are a minority in Assam. The Assam Government infact removed and destroyed century old graveyard in the campus erasing an important era of Assam's history.
The Assam Government later tried to bring down the Panbazar Baptist Churh to construct car park. Fortunately the Panbazar Church was saved by the Christian community with country wide protest.
