Opened in 1999 the $10 million privately owned state of art bio-solid pelletizing plant processes waste from the two City of Windsor Water Reclamation plants. The dewatered sewage sludge is heat dried and turned into pellets which are sold as fetilizer. The Romano Water Reclamation Plant produces 7,000 dry tons of waste each year, while the Little River Plant produces an additional 3,300 dry tons.
The project was initiated by the City of Windsor in order to reduce odours associated with traditional disposal processes. Reducing the odours doubled the cost of getting rid of the sludge.
