Ojibway (Windsor, Ontario)

USA / Michigan / River Rouge / Windsor, Ontario
 neighbourhood, draw only border

This area of land was originally the Town of Ojibway. The first Ojibway post office was founded in 1897. Founded by US Steel Corperation and incorperated as a town in 1913, the area was dubbed to be the next Gary Indiana, or Hamilton Ontario. During World War 1,the project slowed, but got ready for development, constructing concerte storm sewers and ditches. An extensive town site plan was envisioned for the company town but never came to be. When the Great Depression hit, plans for this town were all but abandonned. It's population never exceeded 100.
Sidewalks resulting from this preparation can still be found today in the woods of Brunet park, in LaSalle, and Oakwood park in Windsor. And in a wooded area between Bouffard and Laurier roads in LaSalle.
In 1966, the Town of Ojibway was annexed by the City of Windsor.

A sample of the extensive street/town plan envisioned can be found in the photo above. Use the large vessel slip at Morterm for reference in both maps.
