  • This is Royal Hotel which was constructed and owned by one Mr Bart who was an Anglo-Indian. Mr Bart was a senior timber merchant who took teak-forests of Seth Gokuldas and others on lease. Exclusively for British and European visitors, he constructed this magnificent building soon after 1857, not too far from the Agency Mansion (currently Divisional Commissioner's residence) which was the principal seat of British administration of the then "Saugor and Nerbuddah Territories". Bart's Royal Hotel was probably the first building in this neighborhood of South Civil Lines. It is ambiguous how its ownership got transferred to Seth Gokuldas who, in turn, gave it to Chamanlal husband of Rajkumari Bai (daughter of Seth Jiwandas and grand-daughter of Seth Gokuldas). The building is dilapidated and is occupied by the State Electricity Board.
