  • Actually named after the Vandenberghe family. Jules Vandenberghe immigrated to the from Belgium and started a vegetable farm here. His sons learned to fly and son bought airplanes, landing here on their father's farm. Son George took the airport development seriously, and grew the field into one of the most popular and busiest general aviation facilities in the area. Sold to the county aviation authority in the late 80's, it serves as a reliever airport to Tampa International. Many, many pilots learned to fly here from grandson Eddie Vandenberghe and other local instructors. A lot of local flying history here!
