Padrauna is the administrative headquarters of Kushinagar District, Uttar Pradesh. It is located 71 km north-east of Gorakhpur and 336 km south-east of the state capital, Lucknow.

Places of tourist interest include Kuber Asthan, Devraha Asthan and Sidhua Asthan. The Japanese Temple, Kushinagar Museum, Japanese Garden, Buddha Vihar, Meditation Park and Indo-Japan-Srilanka temple at Kushinagar constitute interesting excursions outside Padrauna.

Nearest major airport is at Lucknow. Padrauna Railway Station is situated on the meter gauge line from Gorakhpur. Gorakhpur Junction Railway Station and Deoria Railway Station are the closest broad gauge railheads.
