Pomeroy is the county seat of Meigs County, Ohio. This small town on the banks of the Ohio River is almost completely confined to the low-lying area between the bluffs and the river.

In the 19th century, Pomeroy served as a shipping port for the region's mining industry - including coal and salt. Its population today is approximately 2,000 people.
