Vinton County lies in Ohio's scenic Allegheny Plateau region, and is home to several state parks and state forests. It's part of Ohio's 18th Congressional District.
In the 19th century, iron ore was mined and smelted in the region. Vinton County provided much of the iron used by the Union army during the US Civil War. The industry fell into swift decline after the discovery of high grade iron ore in the Lake Superior Region, however.
Towns in Vinton County include: Hamden, McArthur, Wilkesville, and Zaleski.
