Texas State Highway 225 was to have continued through the East End to join US 59, but the project was cancelled due to funding constraints and neighborhood protests. This lead to an abrupt end to the freeway and this large cleared median at that end, which eventually became John R. Harris Park, about 8 acres of green space that serves as a reminder of the freeway that could've been. [www.hcp2.com/parks/park-listing/111-john-r-harris-park]
