Situated at the upper limit of Wallace Harbour on the Northumberland Strait, this area has long been an important migration and breeding habitat for waterfowl. In 1973, Ducks Unlimited undertook the construction of 3.8 km (2.5 mi) of dikes and five water control structures (sluices) to establish 144 ha (356 acres) of impounded wetlands.
